Near Death Experience

by Emily Warzeniak

They are colored with the desert,
Apocalyptically torn leather garb,
And the dust seems to float off of them
As if granules of misuse and death
Collected
Over a million sundial turns
Has awakened.
Dirt and sunlight magicians,
Weaving mirage
Through billowing textile wind sound
And clarion echo.
They bury the body
In the cascading clang
Of hammerdrops upon nails,
And in the cacophony
Words and idle chatter are distant,
Fading into the reverberating hum
Of lost transmission
And biofeedback loops
Skipping over electronic crackling,
Radios expired,
Static in the circular ring
Of singing bowl.
